In 1851, New Waterford was laid out and platted by John and Robert
Silliman in anticipation of the railroad. John Taylor made two additions later.
The railroad station was originally called Bull Creek Station in 1852, but was
changed a few years later.  It is believed the first Taylor family came from
Waterford, Ireland and thus the name 'New' Waterford was selected.
